Can Animal Communication Help You and Your Dog
ARE YOU AN ANIMAL COMMUNICATOR?
Animal communication doesn’t get much respect from a lot of people. They call it “woo woo” or fantasy or fiction. And some people make quite a show of it. But it’s so much more than that.
If you break it down, animal communication is simply conveying a message from one animal (human) to another (dog) or vice versa. If you have a dog, you probably communicate with them many times every day, possibly without knowing it. That means YOU are an animal communicator, at least on some level.
HOW DO YOU COMMUNICATE WITH YOUR DOGS?
When you give your dog a command like “sit, ” you communicate your desire that you want them to sit. If you pick up your keys, especially if you look at your dog, you’re communicating that you invite them to go on a car ride. How many times every day does your dog get messages like this from you?
Much of the time, you might be communicating with your dog, unintentionally. If you have to spell “ball” or “outside,” you know that accidentally saying those trigger words will send a message to your dogs. You might not intend to send the message, but that doesn’t mean they won’t receive it.
HOW DO YOU USE ANIMAL COMMUNICATION ON PURPOSE?
If you’re communicating with your dogs unintentionally, consider how it might affect them. Mixed messages are confusing to us when we’re with other humans. They must be confusing for our dogs too.
What if every message you send to your dog could actually help you build the relationship between the two of you? Possibly, with just a bit more awareness, you could send messages you mean to send more often. And you could receive messages from your dog that you’ve been missing too.
What do you suppose someone might be capable of if they were actually trying? I’d guess quite a bit, much like someone who can make something for dinner versus someone who puts more effort into making the best dish possible.
Someone motivated to create a great dish first finds interesting recipes. Then they gather quality ingredients and study the right way to prepare it all. This person takes it to a deeper level than the one that makes something for dinner. When they put the time and effort into making their creation the best it can be, you can tell. Much more enjoyable and complete, don’t you think?
TAKING ANIMAL COMMUNICATION TO THE NEXT LEVEL
Using animal communication works the same way. For example, when you start training your puppy to go outside to go potty, you start by watching them closely. When they start sniffing the floor, you immediately take them outside to relieve themselves. This tells them that you want them to go outside to go potty.
You have just intentionally communicated with your puppy. They may or may not get it right away, so you have to repeat the message, but eventually, they get it. You can probably come up with several instances of simple communication between you and your dog if you think about it.
RECOGNIZING THE COMMUNICATION FROM YOUR DOG
Dogs have their own language made up of sounds, body position, looks, and thoughts. If you pay attention to the messages they send through those channels, can you understand what they’re telling you? I’ll bet you understand much more than you think.
When you see your dog down on their front legs with tail wagging, do you ask them if they want to play? That’s another example of communicating with your dog.
Your dog notices your body language, sounds, emotions, etc. too.
Dogs seem to understand the unspoken mental language too. Have you ever had your dog try to comfort you without any conscious effort or request on your part?
It would seem that they connect with you on a deeper level. The theory is that there is a mental connection between animals (or humans and dogs) that can transmit messages.
IS A MENTAL CONNECTION POSSIBLE?
One example of animal communication would be when one horse in a herd alerts to danger, and they all run. It’s believed that they all get the mental signal to run. And since no one has told them it’s impossible to get mental signals, they believe it and run. It’s beneficial for them to act immediately so that they don’t get eaten.
Even though they don’t talk or make a noise, the message spreads throughout the group anyway. Waiting to recognize the leader’s outward signal could cost precious time that could be used to escape. Some scientists believe it’s an adaptation for survival that they don’t shut down the ability to receive messages.
APPLYING PRINCIPLES OF ANIMAL COMMUNICATION TO YOUR DAILY LIFE
It’s easy to write off what we don’t understand. However, thinking of it in simpler terms makes it easier to understand animal communication and how each of us is already doing it, whether we realize it or not.
What if we practice paying attention to our first impressions and don’t let the filter of “that can’t be” get in the way? If you pay attention to your dog and respond accordingly, you might be surprised. You will often find that this communication can deepen the understanding you have of your dog.
