Should you try CBD for your dog?
It’s everywhere!
CBD for dogs is the subject of an interesting and ever-changing conversation. These products are credited with relieving so many different issues, from pain relief to decreasing anxiety to controlling seizures. It seems like a miracle substance! But it does come with a bit of a price tag. How do you know if it's worth the money you spend on it?
CBD vs Hemp
While closely related, the hemp plant has lower levels of THC than the marijuana plant. Some sources use the names interchangeably. CBD can be derived from either plant, although extracting oils from the plants is done differently.
Hemp seems to be used more for beauty products and possibly calming effects, while CBD seems to be used more for seizures, pain, and other health conditions. In order to make an informed decision, you need to research the products you’re interested in, read reviews, do comparisons and make a choice.

Choosing an effective product for your dog
Since these products are not regulated, you have to consider things like reputation, testing, customer service and price. Then when you give it to your dogs, pay attention to whether you're getting the desired results. Note; you do often get what you pay for, so cheaper isn't always better.
We have dogs with arthritis, hip dysplasia, and other various senior issues, so I started researching a bit. I tried products from a couple of companies but wasn’t really convinced that they were working. As I found out more about how testing helps ensure quality, I came across the company we’re using now.
Our CBD experience
We started using CBD tinctures from Veritas Farms a couple of years ago and have been very happy with the results. We also use the chews from Lix Pet Wellness. These companies have a good reputation, test their products for THC level and effective ingredients, and provide excellent customer service.
When our senior dogs get grumpy or just don't seem like they're happy, we have been giving CBD with good results. Those dogs are more playful and rest more easily when they are getting it.
